Solar Patio Lights: The Way Of The Future?

In home decorating, as in life, change is the only constant. What was trendy yesterday is not trendy tomorrow anymore. Now off course we need to take this change with a ‘pinch of salt’ as no-one can, in reality, always keep up with the times. It will simply be too expensive!! One trend however that I think is here to stay is the notion to be more environmentally conscious. Ever heard of the expression, ‘Carbon footprint’? Homeowners are being challenged by government, non-profit organisations, businesses and even friends to reduce harmful emissions from their homes and ultimately reduce their carbon footprint.

Solar patio lights provide this solution. Solar powered patio lights are a great way to save money and the environment, all whilst your outdoor patio is beautifully illuminated. These lights simply harness the power of the sun and turn it into energy. Solar patio lights have solar panels that capture the sunlight during the day. This natural light from the sun then recharges the batteries.

Because of this technology there are no ongoing monthly electricity bills to pay. This can translate into a massive saving, especially if you use your patio frequently in the evenings.  The relatively simplistic nature of solar powered patio lights also means that installation is dead easy. There is already a range of different brands and styles to choose from. The solar panels normally come in a decorative fixture (e.g. a garden rock) which will either blend in with your outdoor patio or the light fitting itself. This panel needs to be placed in a position where there is enough sunlight. Barring this one ‘installation obstacle’ you’re pretty much free to do as you wish. There is also no unwanted wiring that may cause hazardous obstacles or hamper your decorative efforts.

Solar powered patio string lights are also very popular with homeowners for decorating alongside outdoor flooring or weaved into the spikes of an umbrella. Options are vast to beautify your patio area with these magical lights, and they come at a fraction of the cost of normal lights.

My prediction is that solar patio lights will become increasingly popular over the next few years. Prices will probably also go down as more and more companies supply these with bigger government tax-break incentives to do so. This is great for the consumers as it will result in more diversity at, what we hope for, lower prices.
