CONTRACTOR OR A SUPPLIER

WHO DO I BUY MY PRODUCTS FROM MY CONTRACTOR OR MY DESIGNER OR A SUPPLIER?? HELP?If your thinking about a remodel or new construction project and you have been told that if you don’t buy from the contractor they cant warranty the product, is that true? NO, it is not true. Why, is it not true. Let me help you understand. Contractors offer au usual year maybe 2 year warranty to service your project after they install the project. That is it. Once that time is past the warranty is done. In some cases there are no further warranties with limited one year warranty items. However in some cases there are some warranties that last a much longer time that are carried by the Manufacturer themselves. There are standard building practices in which all contractors and subcontractors such as plumbers, electricans are to work at. For example the Department of Building and Housing. Here is a link to the Durability and Warranty description: http://www.dbh.govt.nz/codewords-21-article-7As stated on there website: Product warranties only apply when voluntarily offered by the manufacturer, installer, or other business providing the product. These types of warranties are based on either representations made by, or a contract with, the person or company providing the product or service. The party providing the warranty usually decides the warranty period as well as the terms and conditions for the warranty. Here is an example of a Cambria Solid Surface Countertop Warranty:Cambria provides a Lifetime Limited Warranty to the original owner of the installed Cambria Natural Quartz Surface see link: http://www.cambriausa.com/pdf/warranty.pdfHere is an example of Kohler Plumbing Fixtures: KOHLER plumbing products are warranted to be free of defects in material and workmanship for one year from date of installation. See Kohler link: http://www.us.kohler.com/general/warranty.jspThis also stands true for 99% of all the cabinetry manufacturers out there too. It might even be more important in the cabinetry part of your project, since the kitchen/bath designer will probably know more about how the cabinetry part of the design is going to go together than the builder. It is certain that they have to work together to provide the cabinetry to ensure proper fit the new space. What I am trying to explain to all of you is that the warranty is carried with the manufacturer. The contractor is warranty the workmanship of how it gets installed for the length of his terms but if his terms end and the manufacturer warranty may be longer, the manufacture warranty is still going to cover items in most cases. So be clear you do NOT have to buy items from your contractor. They would like you too. But today more than ever all facets of the building industry have to be flexible. That includes, vendors, contractors, architects and designers. If you need help with your project Call Bagley Custom Interiors 206-715-9167

ACCESSORIES Make A STATEMENT

ACCESSORIES Make A STATEMENTI have had the good fortune to work with several hundred clients and it is always amazing to see a house come alive, but it is a true joy to see it completely furnished. One of the companies that I enjoy using their accessories is Decorative Crafts. It is exclusive to the trade, but what a wonderful line. It is traditional or can be that one piece that is used in a transitional setting. This is my clients Penthouse in downtown Bellevue WA, were we we used this carved Italian mirror as a dressing mirror in the Master Suite. Flanked by two beautiful Fine Art wall sconces and a LCD TV screen that is covered by a rolling screen. The screen rolls up behind the frame to expose a TV when you want. Luxury moments. If your bathroom needs a Luxurious feature then call Bagley Custom Interiors we are here to help. 206-715-9167

NEW LEAD PAINT LAWS

NEW LEAD PAINT LAWSI was just talking about spring being around the corner and it being painting season. Time be get inspired, time to revive our homes, when I attend the Master Builders Association of King Counties meeting, Thursday evening, where we discussed the “NEW LEAD PAINT LAWS mandated by the EPA”. Then I came accross this blog by Homesavvi. so instead of rewriting I would like to quote the entire blog entry from Homesavvi. Posted on Jan 7th 2010 www.homesavvi.blogspot.com Many homeowners don’t know that the EPA has established new regulations with regards to the removal of lead paint. Starting in April 2010, these new rules will affect homeowners with homes built anytime pre-1987.The EPA rules about removal are pretty strict and will have to be followed by anyone working in the home including builders, painters, plumbers and electricians. Any renovation or repair work is going to be affected.Homeowners will need to be restricted from the area, and contractors need to take extra precautions for performing the work, cleaning up, and verifying the work. The home improvement industry is getting ready by attending classes, getting certified in government approved programs and taking on extra liability insurance for jobs completed. Extra care needs to be taken to remove and properly dispose of the paint. One HomeSavvi member asked a question in our Forums about why the cost for a paint job seems so high. In any paint job, the labor for removal, disposal, preparation and application is the expense that drives up the cost.- next year, the costs will go up, but we’ll be more assured of healthy homes especially for children and pregnant women.I’d say it’s a cost worth paying! As homesavvi has indicated anyone that works on any project that causes disturbances to a home that is older than 1987 or has lead present will have to follow the NEW guide lines. My goal in sharing this with you is to keep you aware of what is coming up and to also keep you aware of what you should expect your contractor to know as well. Be safe. Interior paint color ideas: Spring is coming

Interior paint color ideas: Spring is coming Considering how many consumers have had a different financial pathway than they might have a few years prior, we are all looking for ways to brighten our spirits and the last thing anyone needs right now is to have a gloomy looking house.Choosing paint colors amidst the wide variety of choices can be a very grueling task. I like to break paint down into color categories and then move on from there. Flowery yellows – Yellows are also ideal for the house since psychology has proven, yellow, often being associated with the sun, can often bring a sunny and cheerful disposition to people, as well as banishing any bleak and depressing thoughts and feelings a person may have. Benj Moore White Dove Semi Gloss Trim with Ming Yellow Fruity orange – Being somewhat a brighter hue of red, orange has a tendency to instill passion while helping maintain a brighter disposition than that of red-themed colors. Orange doesn’t have to look like a Popsicle. From Soft Marigold to Orange Sky. Benj Moore Soft Marigold 160Green – Green is known to have an intrinsically calming effect, which is why it is so easy on the eyes. Specifically because of this calming effect, green is therefore ideal as bedroom paint colors, kitchen paint colors, and if you are the tyoe that likes to relax primarily in the living room, as living room paint colors. Mixtures of bright greens with a highlights of darker green shades could prove to be spectacular interior paint color ideas for a home intended to have an “organic” theme to it.Benjamin Moore Chic Lime 396Blue is often associated with the sensation of coolness because of the natural color of big bodies of water, particularly the sea, as well as being the color of a cloudless sky. The ability of blue and its various shades to be quite relaxing is also a big plus when used as bedroom paint colors, since the bedroom is the primary room if the house where goes to rest and sleep. Lets get your house ready for spring too. Call or email Bagley Custom Interiors 206-715-9167

Indulging in Luxury-Goods doesn’t mean that you have to give up on all factors of SustainabilityPeople are more aware than ever that they want to return to a more socially responsible way of building. The earth is demanding we wake up and take attention to what is happening around us. One of our local association that can guide us to better building practices is Built Green of the Master Builders of King and Snohomish Counties As, consumers are demanding that the goods they buy be made in ways that do not harm the environment or the workers who make them. They seek “green” products or “fair trade” goods. You have to fundamentally have to take responsibility for the things you yourself can solve or can be come involved in and try to solve, build responsibly is my moto.1. Where does the product I want come from for my project come from ?2. How is the product I want produced?3. Does the product I want for my project come from a company that has a green/recycle practice in place. How do they conduct business.4. Where are the things that I tear out going to go?If you ask your self these simple questions you can begin to contribute to the build green practices, now these are baby steps but they are steps and you are on your way. Bagley Custom Interiors has access to green vendors, architects and materials for your project. 206-715-9167 Proud Member NKBA & MBA

NEED A BATHROOM IN GREENLAKE

NEED A BATHROOM IN GREENLAKEThe Northwest is know for lots of rooms, lots of doors and not necessarily the best laid out houses. Construction is starting immediately on a home in Greenlake where we took a bedroom and turned into a 5 piece Master Suite. We also added a stacked washer and dryer accessible to the hallway which this little family is going to need since they are expecting their first baby. Simple classic materials, hex tiles for the flooring, subway tile with a splace of color added, durable recycle counter tops with caesarstone quartz. Beautiful and practical is the theme we sought for this older Seattle home.BEFORE BEDROOMAFTER BATHROOM PLANDo you need a bathroom added to your home? Or do you just need to update your bathroom make sure to call an EXPERT Bathroom Designer. Bagley Custom Interiors can take care of that for you. 206-715-9167
